A big, beautiful tree can really make a yard look great, but it can also be the one thing that is standing in your way of having the yard you want. Perhaps you want a more open space, or don’t want anything obstructing the view of your home, but regardless of your reason, cutting down the tree may be the best option.

Once the tree has been cut down, your work is likely not finished, as there will be a stump that is left behind that you may want to get removed. Here’s why you should consider stump removal:

  • Aesthetics: It is important to a lot of people that their home, both inside and out, be aesthetically pleasing, not just to them, but to anyone who visits their home and those passing by. After you have had a tree cut down, if you want to improve the look and curb appeal of your home, it would be best to have the stump removed. Not too many people are fond of tree stumps, so having one in your yard could make people second-guess how they feel about your property.
  • Safety: You should always feel safe when you are at your home. The problem people face when they leave tree stumps where they are instead of having them removed is that they pose a safety risk. You can easily trip and injure yourself if you are not watching where you are walking—and this could potentially happen to your guests as well. If that happens, you could find yourself with a lawsuit on your hands.
  • Insects: From flies and mosquitoes to beetles and termites, there are a lot of insects that can come and invade your outdoor space. Ideally, you’ll want to remove what is so appealing to them to decrease their chances of moving in. Tree stumps will start to decay over time, and it is this decaying that attracts the insects. If they get too close, they may enter your home, leaving you with an infestation to handle.
  • Re-growth: You’ve cut down your tree for a reason, so the last thing you want is to have another tree or many trees growing in your yard. Although it may take a while to become fully grown, while it is growing, your yard won’t look as beautiful as you want it to. There is also the chance of potential buyers passing on your place. If you want to prevent trees from growing in your yard, it would be best to have the stump removed.

People sometimes keep tree stumps after the tree has been cut down and use them as a design element in their yard. This isn’t the worst idea, but there are a lot more reasons to get rid of a tree stump than there are to keep it. If you decide that stump removal is the best option, you’ll want to make sure to hire the right company for the job.
